BEGA Smart

All you need is a smartphone and the free BEGA Smart app to configure and control your BEGA Smart components. Some of these components require a standard power supply (230 V).

Some features require an active Internet connection (e.g. the transfer and sharing of systems, or the download of device and system updates).

The trouble-free operation of the BEGA Smart system furthermore requires that the ranges of the various components be taken into consideration during initial configuration. Permanently installed components (e.g. BEGA Smart Sockets or BEGA Smart Rotary Dimmers) should be used within the Zigbee range (30 m open field) of the next component. This is necessary to ensure availability between the components and forwarding of control commands.

All Apple iPhones with iOS 11 or higher as well as smartphones with Android 6.0 or higher are supported.

The BEGA Smart app is also available as a tablet version for Apple iPads. A version for Android tablets is not planned for the time being.

The smartphone and tablet PC apps will be identical in their scope of function.

Depending on the components you choose, you can control either your outdoor area or your indoor living space with BEGA Smart. You can also create a combination of indoor and outdoor control, depending on the range of the components to each other. Please note that not all components are suitable for outdoor use.

You use the free BEGA Smart app to set up your BEGA Smart system. The system and its component are configured via this smartphone app. The individual components are scanned using codes and are added to the installation. You subsequently have the option of controlling and switching luminaires in the immediate vicinity as well. You can also create groups and scenarios for your customised lighting design, or configure timer-controlled events to automate processes.

You must be within Bluetooth range of one of the components (entry points) to set up or control the system – i.e. no more than 15 metres away. Outdoor systems can allow for greater distances.

"System" describes a single device or a group of BEGA Smart devices, which were interlinked or configured as one. A system can also be a single component that was used to set up the system and to implement the initial configuration.

The BEGA Smart app allows the creation of multiple systems, which, however, cannot interact or communicate with each other. This means you have the option of mapping individual areas of your home separately in the app (indoors, outdoors, kid's area/adult area) or all components jointly in one larger system to operate all components with a single command.

Yes, several systems can be controlled and configured in the app. However, only one system can be controlled and configured at a time. Where multiple systems exist in the app, you will have to switch from one to the next.

Where systems are set up to have multiple users, these can access the system simultaneously (via the function “Share system”), provided they are connected to different components. In exceptional cases, this function may cause delays.

Entry points are Smart components that are able to communicate with your smartphone/tablet PC via Bluetooth. You will need an active Bluetooth connection to configure the BEGA Smart system.

An entry point is a device that allows the creation of a new system. Entry points have Bluetooth and Zigbee connectivity. Devices without Bluetooth functionality cannot be used as an entry point for the creation of a new system. These devices can only be added to an existing system as an additional component.

The following devices can be used as entry points: BEGA Plug & Play Smart Tower, BEGA Smart Socket, BEGA Smart DALI Controller, BEGA Smart Rotary Dimmer, BEGA Smart Plug and BEGA System pendant luminaires.

More devices will be added.

Data Matrix or QR codes are 2D codes that store machine-readable textual information. The BEGA Smart app can scan and process this information. The codes facilitate an easy setup and configuration of BEGA Smart. The configuration codes are found directly on the BEGA Smart components, and in some cases additional codes can be found in the packaging. Please store these additional labels carefully to allow a new setup at a later time if needed. BEGA Smart components cannot be configured again without these codes after a factory reset!

You can use the following devices to control your BEGA Smart system: BEGA Smart app, BEGA Remote Controls ONE & PRO, BEGA Smart Rotary Dimmer.

It is often quicker and more intuitive to use a BEGA Remote Control or a BEGA Smart Rotary Dimmer for system control. Of course, all available control devices can be used in one and the same system to enjoy optimum accessibility at all times.

Both remote controls (ONE & PRO), as well as the BEGA Smart Rotary Dimmer can be set up and configured intuitively via the BEGA Smart app. An entry point component (See "What is an entry point?") is required to allow the integration of a BEGA Remote Control in a system. The BEGA Smart Rotary Dimmer does not need such a component – it can in itself be used as the first component (entry point) for a new system.

This type of control is currently not available. Your smartphone must be within range of one of the BEGA Smart system components (10 to 15 metres) to establish a Bluetooth connection.

The BEGA Remote Controls ONE & PRO as well as the BEGA Smart Rotary Dimmer can be configured directly via the BEGA Smart app.

Changes made to the system or the configuration within the BEGA Smart app are not automatically transferred to the remote controls.

Please read the section further on "How do I transfer configuration changes to the BEGA Remote Control ONE/PRO?".

Please note that you must be within Bluetooth range of an entry point to configure the remote controls. This does not apply for the BEGA Smart Rotary Dimmer, as it is an entry point in itself.

The Remote Control ONE/PRO has a range of approx. 30 metres (open field) to the next BEGA Smart component via a Zigbee connection.

The BEGA Remote Control ONE allows basic control actions for your BEGA Smart system. Individual luminaires, luminaire groups or scenarios can be assigned to the ten user-programmable buttons.

The BEGA Remote Control PRO is optimised for comfort in terms of material, display and usability for the control of your smart system. The menu is navigated using an ePaper display and touch ring. Two user-programmable favourites buttons also allow access to popular functions. The BEGA Remote Control PRO features an attractive anodised, cast aluminium housing in matt black and a front made of shatter-proof and scratch-resistant Gorilla® glass. The remote control is therefore a decorative accessory in itself when placed in the wall mount.

Luminaires and components can be grouped together to speed up access and facilitate the simultaneous control of multiple devices.

Individual luminaires can be grouped together. That will allow you to e.g. switch several luminaires on or off at the same time or dim their light simultaneously. Each luminaire can only be part of one group.

Unlike groups, scenarios have more exact settings. In a scenario, luminaires can be set to a preconfigured state, for example "50 percent brightness, light colour blue".

Luminaires can be integrated into several scenarios, with different settings for each one.

Groups and scenarios can optionally be assigned to buttons on the remote control or can be integrated in time-controlled events.

Time-controlled events allow you to switch your lighting automatically. The light could e.g. be switched on and/or off at a specific time of the day or depending on the position of the sun.

Another example: on weekdays, you want the garden illumination to come on 30 minutes before sunset and turn off at 11:15 pm. You might want the light on longer on weekends. You can define several events for your system. These events are then saved to the system and will be executed automatically, even if there is no smartphone within range.

The BEGA Smart system adopts the time change automatically. You don't have to do anything, and all your configured events will immediately adjust to the new time parameters.

A red dot will appear in the "Settings" menu when software updates become available for your BEGA Smart components. The app will guide you through the update process. We recommend performing updates at a time when none of the components are due to be used, as the process may take some time, depending on the type of component and the functional scope.

The system uses Bluetooth with a range of approx. 15 metres (open field) to the next entry point (see "What is an entry point?") for control via smartphone and the BEGA Smart app. From that point, the signal from one component to the next is transmitted via Zigbee (provided the next component is within range). You can therefore control components out of immediate range, provided your current position is within Bluetooth range to an entry point and all other components are within Zigbee range to each other.

The Remote Controls ONE or PRO use a Zigbee radio network with a range of over 30 metres (open field) to the next entry point.

Yes, that is possible if at least one outdoor component and one indoor component are positioned within Zigbee range of each other. Please note that double-glazing or an external wall may reduce the range.

Products bearing this label are compatible with the BEGA Smart system and can be configured and controlled via the BEGA Smart app.

The following is the only limitation for BEGA Plug & Play: You can add Smart Extenders to increase the number of connections of a Smart Tower. Please note that the maximum total connected wattage must not exceed 50 W. The total connected wattage can be increased by adding more Smart Towers.

All BEGA Zigbee LED lamps can be configured, switched on and off and controlled using BEGA Smart.

The BEGA Smart system can also implement software updates for one of the following Zigbee lamps, once they are available. The app will notify you about the availability of any updates.

You can add devices that are currently not officially supported, provided they are compatible with Zigbee 3.0. They may, however, have limited functionality. BEGA does not offer any support for these components!

BEGA Plug & Play is a product category, which belongs fully to the BEGA Smart system. BEGA Plug & Play stands for portable luminaires for outdoor use.

You will have to manually adjust the app settings if you reposition the luminaire plugs connected to the Smart Tower/Smart Extender outputs in an existing installation. The app does not automatically recognise which luminaire is connected to which output. Such changes are easily done in the app.

All BEGA Plug & Play luminaires are fully compatible.

We offer an upgrade kit that will guarantee full compatibility with all the latest devices of the Smart system if you have the 2016 version of the Plug & Play system installed.

All BEGA system pendant luminaires are compatible with BEGA Smart, provided you choose a matching canopy with integrated BEGA Smart DALI Controller.

You will need a matching canopy with integrated BEGA Smart DALI Controller to configure and control the luminaire via BEGA Smart.

You can choose to search for the article number of your system pendant luminaire in the BEGA Smart app. Alternatively, you can select an image manually. You can change the picture at any time.

You will need a separate BEGA ID for each user. This will enable control of the system by multiple users.

System sharing: The original user will retain full system rights and can continue to control, change, delete or add components. Any other users will only be able to control the system.

System transfer: The original user transfers all system rights to another user. The original user will no longer have any access to the system and will not be able to view it either – it will fully disappear from their app. The receiving user will now have full system rights and can control, change, delete, add or remove its components.

Each user will need a unique BEGA ID to share systems or to transfer them to other users.

The original user can control, change, add, remove components (administrative permissions). Other system users can only control the system.

No. The original user (administrator) cannot remove users. Users will have to remove the system from their app to lose access. If a user logs out with their BEGA ID, this will not suffice to lose access to the system.

Navigate to the following menu item in the BEGA Smart app: Settings > Share system > Allow QR code scanning by other smartphones. As the original user, you will retain all system permissions. Please note: A BEGA ID is required.

Navigate to the following menu item in the BEGA Smart app: Settings > Add system > Receive system access > Scan QR code from the original user’s smartphone. As system user, you will have control permission. Please note: A BEGA ID is required.

Navigate to the following menu item in the BEGA Smart app: Settings > Transfer system > Allow QR code scanning by another smartphone. As the transferring user, you will lose all permissions and access to the system. Please note: A BEGA ID is required.

No. Shared systems will not be synchronised. That may result in differences and inconsistencies in app states. Logging back into the system will synchronise the system. Ideally, you should remain logged in at all times.

Yes. That may, however, mean that you have different permissions in the various systems stored in your app. You have full permissions (control, change, add, delete) for the systems you share with other users, while your permissions are limited (control only) in the systems shared with you. The system overview in the app will reflect these rights.

You will not automatically lose access to your BEGA Smart systems by deleting your BEGA ID.

Any system that you alone control or that you share with others as the original user will remain stored in your BEGA Smart app, and you will retain your permissions as before.

Systems that have been shared with you will also remain stored on your BEGA Smart app, and will remain accessible to you. These will, however, no longer be synchronised. This will result in inconsistent app states as soon as the original user makes changes to the system (adds new devices, renames devices, etc.).

• The BEGA Smart component has been set up in another Zigbee network.

The following components help bridge range issues or improve the communication between components:
