A 50,000 square metre section of the former Truman Plaza is now home to the “Fünf Morgen” urban village in Dahlem, one of Berlin’s showcase suburbs. It won the European Property Award as the best project in the category “Mixed-use Development”, asserting itself against competitors from 29 countries. It was also the first residential project in Berlin to receive a silver award from the German Society for Sustainable Building (DGNB).
The centrepiece of the urban village is an approximately 6,700 square metre artificial lake with five water branches. A residential area with 100 apartments, villas and penthouses was built on the peninsulas. An offering of local shops and services, from a supermarket and organic supermarket to doctors, a pharmacy and restaurants, is also integrated. Residential care and a nursery are also included in the project’s plans.
The residential area is characterised by large window fronts and generously sized terraces in keeping with the philosophy of fusion living, i.e. a joining of inside and outside living spaces.
The peninsula areas are highlighted by BEGA garden and pathway luminaires with LED technology. The unshielded, 70-centimetre high luminaires with light emission on one side are particularly suitable for lighting situations with low ambient brightness. They are used in the Berlin residential area to illuminate the footpaths.
BEGA ceiling-mounted downlights in the entrance areas to the houses complement the exclusive Dahlem lighting plans.
